Chief Deputy Treasurer
Position Summary
The Chief Deputy Treasurer assists the Treasurer’s Office with daily financial operations, tax collections, banking, accounting, budgeting, reporting, and other duties necessary to maintain accurate county financial records. The position requires strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and the ability to work accurately with financial information and deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Process and record receipts, banking transactions, deposits, tax payments, prepayments, subsequent taxes, refunds, and other County funds.
- Reconcile 50+ bank accounts monthly and maintain the general ledger to ensure financial records and software balances agree.
- Process accounts payable, including payments for County offices, court-appointed attorneys, and State reimbursements.
- Transfer and distribute funds between accounts as needed for taxes, payroll, accounts payable, State allocations, and other County financial needs.
- Prepare monthly County Board financial reports and assist with annual audits and County budget preparation.
- Enter and maintain the approved County budget in the financial system and prepare year-end budget resolutions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the County Treasurer.

- Ability to work with financial records, transactions, and confidential information.
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn county financial software.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Previous bookkeeping, accounting, banking, or related experience is preferred.
